Red Deer Polytechnic has unveiled its new logo.

The post-secondary institution’s new brand was revealed during a live virtual event Friday afternoon.

“I am so proud that we have achieved this pivotal next step in our evolution,” said Guy Pelletier, RDP board chair.

“Our history as Red Deer College is deeply rooted in this region. Now, as Red Deer Polytechnic, our designation, name and brand will provide the springboard for us to continue to support our students and help the entire region to grow.

“Our brand at its core starts with the individual, whether that might be individual students, faculty, staff, partners or our communities. All of these individuals are together on a journey of growth, transformation and continuous lifelong learning.”

The brand strategy, which includes the new logo and visual identity, will help RDP “remain focused,” said Pelletier.

“But it also provides the foundation that helps define our story. How people perceive us, how we act as an organization and how we help the students and other stakeholders to identify our institution are all foundational pieces of our story and our brand.”

The logo, which features the letter R within a larger D, represents “who we are and what we stand for,” said Pelletier.

“The bold monogram is indicative of the type of polytechnic we are,” he said.

“It signifies a new beginning for Red Deer Polytechnic. This new beginning will also be represented through our visual identity.”

RDP’s colours will be familiar, but refined and modern, he added.

Major items, such as signage on the outside of buildings, will be changed over the coming years, while other items will change much sooner. The banners lining the road as people drive in will be installed next week.

Jim Brinkhust, RDP interim president, said a “great deal of effort” has been put into the launch.

“Our brand speaks to the over 600 people that we involved in talking about what we are as an institution and what we can be moving forward,” said Brinkhurst.

“That’s all reflected in our brand. While it may look very simple when you see our brand the way it is today, it involved a great story behind it.

“The brand is our story and the brand is what we are going to use moving forward to develop this institution.”

Savannah Snow, Students’ Association of RDP president, said the move to a polytechnic is exciting and full of opportunity.

“The students and the community will benefit greatly from our ability to offer degrees and provide more work-integrated learning. The Students’ Association is pleased our students will be able to learn, earn and grow their families and futures close to home,” said Snow.

Premier Jason Kenney and Advanced Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides also had messages to share at the virtual event.

“It’s a real step forward for Red Deer College to become a polytechnic,” Kenney said in a pre-taped message.

“I want to thank Minister Demetrios Nicolaides for having worked so closely with the Red Deer College-Red Deer Polytechnic community to take this important step forward to be able to provide even better programming that will prepare central Alberta students for the job market and opportunities of the future.”
