Calgary nursing students getting ready to join the front lines

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Student nurses from several Calgary programs will be bolstering the front lines during the COVID-19 crisis.

Bow Valley College is the latest school to announce it’s fast-tracking students who were slated to graduate this year.

So far, around a hundred practical nurse graduates will be able to join the workforce along with health care aide students currently in the field.

“In the months to come, Bow Valley College will ensure that students and faculty are not placed in unsafe situations and that they comply with legislation and standards of practice for infection prevention and control,” said Nora MacLachlan, Dean of the School of Health and Wellness.

The University of Calgary and Mount Royal University are also fast-tracking nursing students to be able to work in the health care field as soon as possible.

Bow Valley has been working with students remotely since the provincial government ordered classes to be cancelled last month.
