Lethbridge College introducing new Bachelor of Criminal Justice Program

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge College is launching its new Bachelor of Criminal Justice program, set to begin in the Fall 2023 semester.

The new program is part of the school’s expanding justice, public safety and human services community, which includes the Police Cadet Training program and the creation of a new Indigenous Policing micro-credential, among others.

The Bachelor of Criminal Justice program is the third bachelor degree program available at Lethbridge College, joining Ecosystem Management and Agriculture Science degrees.

Trudi Mason, Dean of the Centre for Justice and Human Services, says the program gives students a blend of classroom theory and opportunities for work-integrated learning and applied research projects.

She added, ““This collaboration was vital to creating a program that gives students the skills and abilities to thrive in a broad range of justice-related fields.”

Lethbridge College said students who graduate from the new program will be set for careers in a broader range of fields, ranging from policing, corrections and border security, to fields related to social justice, human services and victim advocacy.

The new degree replaces the college’s Justice Studies – Bachelor of Applied Arts. Students currently enrolled in the program have the option to complete it as planned, or work to accomodate the new curriculum.

Students who complete a Correctional Studies or Criminal Justice – Policing diploma from Lethbridge College can complete the new program in two years.

Dr. Samantha Lenci, Lethbridge College Provost and Vice President Academic, said, “It has been two-and-a-half years in the making, but together we have created something that will be positive for our students and create graduates who will meet industry needs.”

The first graduates of the new program will graduate in 2025.
