A Calgary woman has been charged in connection with the death of her 24-year-old daughter, whose body was found on a highway near Cochrane more than a year ago.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes unit’s investigation into the homicide of Sarah Rabik, from Calgary, who was found on Highway 8 southeast of Cochrane on Feb. 26, 2020, has resulted in an arrest and charges.

Last Friday, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes arrested Debora Joyce Rabik, 60, of Calgary, charging her with second-degree murder and indignity to human remains.

Alberta RCMP Cochrane detachment confirmed the two women are related but would not say how. Sarah’s obituary, however, identifies Debora as her mother.

Following a judicial hearing, Rabik was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Cochrane provincial court on Tuesday.

Sara’s obituary stated she was a student at Mount Royal University and had volunteered for many years at Making Changes, an organization that provides clothing to people in need.

RCMP said no further details would be provided.
