30th Annual Community Chanukah Menorah Lighting Ceremony

What: With sharing and gifts of warm clothing for those in need, Calgary’s Jewish community invites the public to join  the 30th Annual Community Chanukah Menorah Lighting Ceremony at City Hall’s Atrium. Each year hundreds of Calgarians come to join community leaders and dignitaries as they celebrate with the lighting ceremony, traditional Klezmer music, dancing, and eating traditional potato pancakes called “latkes.” Members of Calgary City Council will be participating in this year’s ceremony, and highlights of the past 30 years of celebrations will be shown.

Dirty Laundry: Oil Money

What: Dirty Laundry, Calgary’s only completely live, completely improvised soap opera presents their 19th season – Oil Money. It’s 1978 in Calgary, Alberta. There’s plenty of oil and plenty of money. The story centers around two feuding families who run two competing oil companies. Who’s heart will break? Who’s deal will bust? Will Calgary ever get the Olympics? Head to the show to find out.

Calgary Fringe 2019 Lottery Draw

What: Grab a front row seat as Calgary Fringe holds their 2019 lottery draw at Village Brewery, hosted by The Kinkonauts. Each artist drawn receives a spot in the 2019 Calgary Fringe Festival, along with more than $8,000 in infrastructure support, including technicians, lighting and staging. Cannes Lions Screening 2018

What: The National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) West, in partnership with The Globe and Mail, is hosting a screening of the Cannes Lions 2018 award winners at Calgary’s cSpace King Edward on December 6. Viewers will have the chance to take in the short — though no less sweet — works of the advertising industry from the comfort of movie theatre seats, with the 126 minutes of award-winning advertisements play on the big screen. Some of these commercials include the famous “It’s a Tide Ad” from Tide, “Unlock” from Apple, and Taco Bell’s “Web of Fries.”
