Huskie happenings: Wrestling, basketball on U of S campus this weekend
The Huskie men’s and women’s wrestling teams — ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, for U Sports nationally — will host the University of Lethbridge and University of Alberta in Canada West conference dual meet competition Friday night and Saturday.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are rolling out the welcome mat this weekend.
The Huskie men’s and women’s wrestling teams — ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, for U Sports nationally — will host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns and University of Alberta Golden Bears/Pandas in a Canada West conference dual meet competition Friday night and Saturday.
The action begins Friday at 7:30 p.m.and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Education Gym on the U of S campus.
The Huskies’ roster is led by 2023 U Sports gold medalist Sue Anne Harms and silver medalists Sierra Mullin and Myah Phillips on the women’s side. The men’s squad is led by U Sports silver medalists Drake Buechler and Cole Sanderson.
B’BALL AT HOME WITH UKRAINIAN NIGHT SATURDAY
The U of S basketball teams are at home once again this weekend, this time hosting the University of Calgary Dinos on Friday and Saturday.
Saturday is also Ukrainian Night at the Physical Activity Complex with performances by the Pavlychenko Folkorique Ensemble and Rushnychok Ukrainian Folk Dance as the Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan will bring 100 newcomers from Ukraine to the game.
The women’s game Saturday is at 5 p.m. while the men’s team hits the court at 7 p.m.
On Friday, the women play at 6 p.m. and men follow at 8 p.m.
Saskatchewan (6-0) is ranked No. 2 nationally for U Sports women’s basketball. The Huskie men, while currently unranked, are off to a 4-2 record. Is
VOLLEYBALL TEAMS BACK IN B.C.
Both U of S volleyball teams return to British Columbia this week as they visit the Trinity Western University Spartans in Langley, B.C.
Saskatchewan is currently ranked No. 6 in Canada for U Sports men’s volleyball thanks to a 7-1 record in Canada West conference play thus far this season.
The Huskie women are unranked with a 5-3 record this season in the Canada West.
Huskies’ men’s volleyball middle player Jack McGeough was named the U of S men’s athlete of the week after recording 21 kills, six blocks and a service ace during a weekend sweep of the University of British Columbia-Okanagan Heat in Kelowna last weekend.
HOCKEY TEAMS ON BYE WEEK
The U of S Huskies hockey teams are enjoying a bye week off before resuming action Dec. 1-2 against the Mount Royal University Cougars.
Saskatchewan — which is just one point out of first place in the Canada West conference after a weekend sweep over the UBC Thunderbirds at Vancouver — is ranked No. 6 nationally for U Sports men’s hockey with a 11-3-0 record.
The Huskie women are 9-4-1 overall.
Fifth-year Huskies blueliner Isabelle Pozzi was named Huskies’ female athlete of the week after she scored a pair of power play goals for her team in a weekend split against the top-ranked UBC Thunderbirds at Merlis Belsher Place.
