U-Sports standout midfielders Monet Alonso-Cruz and Kyle Cordeiro have joined Electric City FC.
Alonso-Cruz led Mount Royal University in assists, with five, as well as three goals scored. During the 2022 season, she earned the honour of Athlete of the Week twice.
“Monet is a player that we are really excited to bring in this season,” said ECFC head coach Randy Ribeiro. “She is technically sound and can play that killer final ball. She has the ability to play in a box-to-box role and covers ground very well.”

Alonso-Cruz was in the Top 10 players from Canada West with game-winning goals. She led MRU to a record-breaking season for their Women’s Soccer Program, earning 25 points, securing them most points earned in a university season, and the most wins the university has ever recorded in a single season (seven).
“I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to experience playing with the team and working with the coaching staff. I can’t wait to work hard this season and play in front of the Peterborough community and fans,” stated Alonso-Cruz.
Cordeiro makes the move from Hamilton United where he played in 18 games last season, logging more than 1,400 minutes and contributing three goals. Representing STFX in 2022, he played and started in all 12 games this past season, scoring six goals and tallying two assists.
“Kyle is a fantastic player that has proven he is a top player both at the U Sports level and League 1 Ontario level,” Ribeiro said.

“He is a technical midfielder with a great engine on him. He brings a lot of creativity and a high work rate into our midfield that we think will fit perfectly into our team this season. He has gained some attention from clubs at the CPL level. We will look to provide him with the platform to have another standout season in League 1 Ontario and hopefully earn himself an opportunity with a CPL club.”
