Victor Loturi fits perfectly into Cavalry FC’s midfield: The Next Gen Presented by Jones DesLauriers | Navacord

Cavalry FC standout midfielder Victor Loturi played all but one match for Calgary in 2021, returning through the U-SPORTS Draft to emerge as Tommy Wheeldon Jr.’s nifty and quick-thinking midfield operator.

The 20-year-old, who played for the Cavs briefly in 2019, returned to the pro club after a stint at Mount Royal University. Taken sixth overall in the 2021 Draft, Loturi quickly rose to take a spot in a star-studded midfield that included Nik Ledgerwood, Joe Di Chiara, Elliot Simmons, and more.

Capable in defence or stretching forward into attack, Loturi thrived in a midfield that promoted industrious pressing and high-octane attacking play. That was evident on his two goals on the season – first of which coming the same day his brother William Akio of Valour FC – as he moved forward to score at the back post.

The numbers back up the Calgary-born midfield juggernaut, who was second on the team in interceptions (36), third in tackles (48) and fifth in duels won (110). He also recorded 1,745 minutes which, of course, single-handily met the CPL’s 1,500-minute under-21 threshold each club was required to meet for the 2021 season.

Loturi, who turns 21 this May, has a bright future ahead of him in Alberta or elsewhere.
