May 19, 2023 - Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL)
Winnipeg Sea Bears News Release

Emerging storylines:

Shawn Maranan / G / Winnipeg, MB / Winnipeg / 1-yr. Pro / Last Team: Winnipeg Wesmen

Shawn Maranan is looking to inspire an already-strong Filipino basketball culture in Winnipeg with a potential homegrown journey to the pros. The undersized guard turned heads at the team's open tryout, earning himself his first professional contract and a spot at the Sea Bears training camp. He's a testament to the Basketball Manitoba provincial development system as well as Winnipeg's Philippine Basketball Association.

Chad Posthumus / F / 6-11 / Winnipeg, MB / Morehead St. '14 / 7-yr. Pro / Last Team: Ottawa BlackJacks (CEBL)

Chad Posthumus never thought there would be an opportunity to play professional basketball in his hometown. He was an absolutely electric high school player who left the country to pursue his hoops dreams at an American college before travelling the world to play ball. But there's no place like home, and returning to Winnipeg to play and live has been extra special for him.

Teddy Allen / G / 6-6 / Phoenix, AZ / New Mexico St. '22 / 2-yr. Pro / Last Team: Wichita SK (Turkey)

Teddy Allen, who averaged 27.9 points with the Wichita Sky Kings last year, will play his first full year in the CEBL after a short stint with the Scarborough Shooting Stars last season. Allen has chosen to bring his talents to a brand new franchise and will be a major player in helping the Sea Bears create their on-court identity.

Glen Yang / G / 6-4 / Hong Kong, CN / Mount Royal '19 / 3-yr. Pro / Last Team: Bay Area Dragons (China)

Glen Yang is returning to Canada to play in the CEBL for the first time with the Winnipeg Sea Bears. The highly sought-after international talent has had much success overseas in the East Asia Super League and Philippine Basketball Association. The former U SPORTS player (Mount Royal University, Calgary), lists both Canada and Hong Kong as his home, and is getting to play professionally on Canadian soil for the first time.
