Calgary’s 5th Poet Laureate, Natalie Meisner, shares “First Nurse”

Last month, Mount Royal University professor, poet, and playwright Natalie Meisner became Calgary’s 5th poet laureate. As part of the role, she’ll serve as an artistic ambassador for the citizens of Calgary. Past poet laureates have included Kris Demeanor, Micheline Maylor, Derek Beaulieu, and Sheri-D Wilson. The two year post comes with $10,000 annual honorarium.

In her first work as poet laureate, Natalie chose to pay tribute to nurses – the frontline workers risking their health to keep us safe during the pandemic. Natalie joined Grant Stovel to share this new work with the CKUA audience:
