Top picks for getting out Nov. 22 – 28 including GIRAF, The Dungarees, Little Miss Higgins and Stars

This week is crazy good! I know, I know, I sound like a broken record, but let’s be honest: this city holds some pretty great (read: cool) events. You need examples? Fine. Here.

Thursday: The GIRAF Festival of Independent Animation is taking place at the Globe Cinema and Quickdraw Studios, and features the best in indie animation film. And we get to see it! Here! It runs until Sunday, check out their schedule for details. The Banff Craft Beer Festival happens at Cave & Basin (in Banff, obvs) this weekend, The Dungarees perform at The King Eddy as part of their Alberta Spotlight series, and DJ Shub will be at the Gateway.

Friday: It’s Jauz with Holy Goof at The Palace tonight, and over in Inglewood you can hit Without Papers Pizza for: a.) pizza; and b.) AYE with Sabo Forte, Oddsome & Rrrrl. Over at Broken City, check out Andrew’s Pale Horses Single Release Party with Crystal Eyes & Pancake, just because you can.

Saturday: Head to the mountains! The Banff Gondola is hosting a Mountaintop Christmas extravaganza — take a trip up the mountain into a Christmas wonderland. Sounds pretty awesome. Unless there’s a blizzard. Crescent Heights Community Association is launching Calgary’s first augmented reality public mural at the community association from 1-4 p.m. (cool!) and Paul Van Dyk with guests Mitz and Travis Lydian will be a The Palace.

Monday: Lunchbox Theatre opens It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at noon, running until Dec. 22, and Tom Jackson brings The Huron Carole Concert Series to the Bella Concert Hall in Mount Royal University’s Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts in support of Alpha House, and Little Miss Higgins will perform at the Ironwood.

Tuesday: It’s Stars with guest Dizzy at the Bella Concert Hall. They put on a great show, so definitely check them out if you can.

Wednesday: It’s Classic Albums Live: Supertramp — Crime of the Century over at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, presented by Arts Commons. If you’ve got the day free and are into the digital media thing, check out Social School Calgary, Canada’s most hands-on and up-to-speed social media and digital market conference over at the new Central Library.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
