Another member of the Yellowhead Chiefs playing in the U18 AAA Manitoba Female Hockey League has found her place to play this fall.

Senior Dara Thompson from Virden has decided to pursue her post-secondary education and play U Sports hockey in Alberta.

The five-foot-six forward, who has 13 goals and 21 points in 24 games this season, has committed to suit up with the Calgary-based Mount Royal University Cougars.

With the move, Thompson will face her current teammate Hannah Reagh, who has committed to play with the University of Calgary Dinos this fall.

Reagh and Thompson, along with four players from the Westman Wildcats — Hallie Franklin, Karlyn Gudz, Kelsey Huibers and Callie Rice — were selected to play this past November for Team Manitoba at the U18 female nationals held in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Besides Thompson and Reagh finding a place to continue playing high-level hockey this fall after graduation from high school in June, their teammate Natalie Rampton is leaving for Nebraska to play goal for the Midland Warriors.

Joining the U18 Chiefs after one season with the U15 Chiefs, Thompson’s rookie season was cut short because of COVID-19. She had a goal and two points in five games.

During her sophomore season, she scored 11 goals and added 15 assists. Last year, she recorded 22 goals and 41 points.
