Calgary’s Official Poetry Slam

What: Calgary’s Official Poetry Slam and Open Mic. Slam poetry is a type of competition where people read their poems without props, costumes, or music. The sign-up sheet for both the open mic and the slam will be released at 7:00 pm, and the show will start at 7:30 pm.

Podcast Live! with David Ridgen

What: Calgary Public Library hosts a speaker series featuring leading podcasters. Award-winning filmmaker and writer, David Ridgen, hosts the true crime podcast, “Someone Knows Something”. Trained as a documentary storyteller, and using his investigative skills as a journalist, Ridgen has created Canada’s most popular and well-crafted podcast. He is now expanding into areas of long form and serial TV drama, which continues the narrative of exploring cold cases, which he will discuss during his presentation.

Women and Environment Film Night: Chasing Ice

Augmented Reality Experience at The CORE 2019

Augmented reality at the CORE (INDE)

What: An augmented reality exhibit is open at Calgary’s The CORE Shopping Centre, in partnership with UK-based technology provider INDE. Attendees will stand on a platform in front of a gigantic screen, which will show them standing alongside everything from whales to giraffes to dinosaurs. Three different experiences will be available to try out, — Air, Land, and Sea; Arctic Explorer; and Back to the Jurassic — with each providing a different setting along with different animals to encounter.

Alberta Ballet: Joni Mitchell’s The Fiddle & The Drum

What: The 10th anniversary of Joni Mitchell’s The Fiddle & The Drum. The Fiddle & The Drum gives passionate expression to Mitchell’s lifelong concern with the issues of conflict, violence and humanity’s continuing devastation of the environment. Alberta Ballet dancers depict Mitchell’s most famous characters from her lyrics and artwork, at times in counterpoint, abstractly illustrating fragile hope and potential for the creation of beauty.

Dine Under The Stars — Soiree In The Valley

What: Soiree in the Valley, billed as a garden dinner pop up, is hosted by Dinner4Four Co. The event, which runs for 30 days at a time, promises an elegant four-course menu offered with wine, all while you’re being served in all-weather Garden Domes.
