Residential school survivor, first Canadian woman police chief among recipients of honorary doctorates

CALGARY – A Blackfoot elder and residential school survivor is one of four people getting an honourary doctorate from Mount Royal University.

Clarence Wolfleg Senior (Elder Miiksika’am), along with national Indigenous poet Louise Bernice Halfe (Sky Dancer), energy sector leader Hal Kvisle, and former police chief Christine Silverberg, will be getting doctors of laws from MRU next week to recognize their achievements and community service.

Wolfleg Senior is also a spiritual advisor to national, provincials, and local organizations.

Silverberg is a former Calgary police chief and was the first woman in Canada to hold such a post.

The four will be presented with their doctorates during MRU’s convocation ceremonies, which take place June 7-10.
