Cannabis courses coming to Mount Royal University

Mount Royal University wants to help you learn more about a budding economy.

The post-secondary institution will offer cannabis courses starting this fall.

MRU’s Brad Mahon said there is growing demand for pot education.

“Think about 1933, the end of prohibition and what that must have been like,” Mahon explained. “We’re focusing on regulations, particularly around medicinal marijuana. Our faculty is an outwardly looking faculty; we are connected to community, we are connected to industry. This really felt like a very natural fit.”

He added it’s crucial they keep up with relevant programming.

“That is happening in industry right now, and we want to connect our students to industry,” Mahon states. “It is fascinating to have an entire sector coming online.”

The courses, which fall under continuing education, will cover the challenges in the cannabis market, marketing, sales and financing.

Olds College is also offering cannabis production classes this summer.
