Scores of business leaders, politicians, academics and more gathered on July 7 at the residence of the U.S. Consul to celebrate the 246th anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America. Pandemic restrictions nixed the celebration last year, so it was a welcome opportunity to socially gather at long last and show support for our neighbours.
Hosted by Consul General Holly Waeger Monster with special guest Ambassador David Cohen, the reception featured fabulous fare, libation, musical performances and heartfelt addresses from dignitaries. Who was not in attendance would make a much shorter list as seemingly everyone was there including Edward Monster, husband of the Consul General; Premier Jason Kenney; Calgary Herald editor-in-chief Lorne Motley; Tourism Calgary senior vice-president of sales Carson Ackroyd; Scott McTavish, general manager of the Alberta Jubilee Auditoria; Daniel Doz, president and CEO of AU Arts; Marla Touw with the Alberta Film Commission; Bow Valley College president and CEO Misheck Mwaba; Mount Royal University president and vice-chancellor Timothy Rahilly; Doug Schweitzer, Alberta Minister of jobs, economy and innovation; Dyana McElroy, gender and sexual diversity liaison officer with the Calgary Police Service and colleague Const. Justin Barrett of the diversity resource team; Calgary International Film Festival executive director Stephen Schroeder with a colleague, festival artistic director Brian Owens; actor Sharon Lawrence who here filming television series Joe Pickett; UCP leadership candidate Danielle Smith with colleague Jeremy Hexham; Parker PR’s Ellen Parker with colleague Bob Sumner; Calgary Economic Development president and CEO Brad Parry and his wife Denise Parry with DCB Partners; University of Calgary vice-president, advancement, James Allan; Minhas Breweries & Distillery owner and Dragon’s Den star Manjit Minhas with her brother Calgary Stampede director Ravinder Minhas and his wife Jyoti Minhas; John Alho, University of Calgary associate vice-president, government relations; Calgary Fish-Creek MLA Richard Gotfried and his wife Cathy Gotfried; and others pictured.
