In addition to choosing their next municipal leaders on Monday, Albertans will vote on two referendum questions: whether Canada should keep equalization payments, and if the province should be on daylight time year-round.

In July, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced that two yes/no referendum questions would be added to the municipal-election ballot on Oct. 18.

The first question is if the principle of equalization payments should be removed from Canada’s Constitution. The second is if Albertans should remain on daylight time for 12 months of the year, instead of changing their clocks in March and November.
