This year, Okanagan Edge and the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce have partnered to showcase some of the Okanagan’s most exciting entrepreneurs, through the Top 40 Under 40 program.

Sponsored by BDO, the Top 40 Under 40 recognizes innovative young professionals in our community and showcases their accomplishments.

Okanagan Edge will feature a new honouree each week, so check back often.

This week we recognize radio personality and DJ Brian Mack.

Brian McCune, better known in the Okanagan as Brian Mack, was born and raised in Penticton, and shortly after graduating from Pen High he took off to Toronto, where he decided to base his life around music.

His decision led him to Calgary, where he enrolled in the TV and Radio Broadcasting diploma program at Mount Royal University.

“I knew from a young age I wanted to base my life and career around music. I wasn’t sure exactly what path to take, but I leapt forward and never looked back,” he says.

After graduating, B Mack nabbed a street team position with Country 105, learning the ropes over the years and eventually landing back in the Okanagan, where he now co-hosts Sun FM Mornings with B Mack and Karly.

Along with his radio career, McCune is also a popular DJ—regularly spinning at local weddings and clubs—and a hype man for the Kelowna Rockets.

“I would most consider myself an entrepreneur in that I get to be my own boss as a professional DJ. I strive for excellence year after year and although my main priority is radio personality on 99.9 Sun FM, DJ-ing will always be a close second,” he says.

Along with his radio and DJ work, McCune has been extensively involved with charity and fundraising organizations in the Okanagan (both paid and unpaid), including Tim Horton’s Kids Camp Day, Dreams for Kids Day, B Mack and Karly’s Cold Weather Clothing Drive, the Schmirler Foundation, Cops for Kids, and others.
