Playwriting Workshop this spring with Natalie Meisner

Cranbrook Community Theatre (CCT), winners of the 2023 Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Arts Award, produces top notch amateur theatre and facilitates theatre-related workshops each year to develop theatre arts.

On April 6, , from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Studio Stage Door, an outstanding Playwriting Workshop is being offered to inspire creative writing.

To add to the fun and celebrate 60 years of theatre and 50 years as stewards of the Studio Stage Door, CCT is following up with a frenzied 24-Hour Playwriting Competition in June (more details coming in May).

CCT is honoured to bring Natalie Meisner to Cranbrook to share her knowledge and thoughtful insight into the playwriting process. Natalie Meisner (www.nataliemeisner.com) is a playwright and poet who was born and raised on the Mi’kma’ki / South Shore of Nova Scotia and began her work in the indie theatre and spoken word poetry scenes of Halifax.

After studying literature and theatre at Kings/ Dalhousie, she trained as an actor at the National Theatre School then headed west coast for a MFA in Creative Writing at UBC, and PhD at the University of Calgary. She has seven full length books in various genres to her name and was Calgary/ Mohkinstsis’ fifth Poet Laureate. She is a wife, a mom to two great boys, and a full professor of creative writing at Mount Royal University where she loves helping other writers find their voice.

This Playwriting Workshop is an exciting opportunity to learn from a professional playwright and will also help prepare teams who are thinking about entering CCT’s 24 Hour Playwriting Competition June 13 to 14.

Both the workshop and competition are sponsored by The Baker Hotel. Registration for the Playwriting Workshop is now open and will accept a limited number of participants. The fee is $20 for CCT members and $25 for non-members and includes a delicious lunch.
