Concordia University of Edmonton is expanding the number of online programs being offered through a partnership with Mount Royal University.

Students or members of the community will be able to enrol in certificate programs through Concordia’s office of extension and culture, the school said in a news release Thursday.

Some of the new programs being offered in collaboration with Mount Royal include addiction studies, business analysis, children’s mental health, professional editing, police studies and project management. The programs will be administered online through Mount Royal.

In total, the partnership is adding 31 new programs, which will be offering more than 220 courses.

Manfred Zeuch, vice president of external affairs and international relations at Concordia, said in the release virtual learning is becoming part of the new normal.

“It has never been more important to build strong partnerships and offer diverse, engaging learning experiences that set the conditions for our students to be successful,” Zeuch said. “These continuing education programs will provide opportunities to gain relevant, important skills and knowledge from anywhere in the world.”

Xinxin Fang, director of the office of extension and culture and centre for Chinese studies, said the school is always looking for more programs and learning opportunities for students and the community at large.

“We recognize the COVID-19 pandemic has created economic uncertainty and, in many cases, led to job losses. We believe these new programs offered in collaboration with Mount Royal University, in addition to our own programs, will be appealing to learners of all backgrounds and skill levels, whether someone is looking to enter the workforce, change careers, or simply try something new,” Fang said.

Concordia, along with other post-secondary schools, announced in May that many of their fall semester courses would be delivered online because of the pandemic. Some courses and programs that require in-person interactions such as drama and science labs will be done in large classrooms in order to follow physical distance guidelines.

Registration for the fall semester is now open.

More details about the certificate programs and how to register can be found on Concordia’s website.
