UCP reign in Alberta to begin with the Throne Speech

EDMONTON – Wednesday will mark the beginning of a new era for Alberta politics.
The United Conservative government will outline its vision for the province with the Throne Speech.
“We’ve heard a lot of this from Jason Kenney already,” says Mount Royal Political Scientist Lori Williams. “Now that he’s getting down to more than just slogans and broad strokes of his party platform, there’s going to be a bit more room for detail and nuance I think in what we see from the Throne Speech.”

At the top of Premier Jason Kenney’s to-do list is repealing the provincial carbon tax.
Williams said the UCP won’t likely be overturning everything the NDP did.
“As an example, Bill-6 was very unpopular but through negotiations, a lot of changes were made to the worker protections and safety protections on farms and ranches in Alberta and some of those will be kept.”
Along with getting rid of the provincial carbon tax, the UCP is expected to lower corporate tax rates and make changes to the Education Act.
The Throne Speech will be delivered by Lieutenant Governor, Lois Mitchell at 3 p.m.
