Dirty Laundry: Oil Money

What: Dirty Laundry, Calgary’s only completely live, completely improvised soap opera presents their 19th season – Oil Money. It’s 1978 in Calgary, Alberta. There’s plenty of oil and plenty of money. The story centers around two feuding families who run two competing oil companies. Who’s heart will break? Who’s deal will bust? Will Calgary ever get the Olympics? Head to the show to find out.

Michael Bublé Love Tour: Edmonton

What: It’s a beautiful day as Canadian crooner and 12-time JUNO Award winner, Michael Bublé is coming Home to Canada this spring, as part of his 2019 Canadian tour. Every full-priced ticket purchased for the tour includes a standard CD or digital copy of Michael’s highly anticipated new album Love.

Love is Michael’s eighth major studio album for Reprise Records and will be available November 16. Bublés has already completed five sold-out world tours, won four Grammy Awards and sold over 60 million records over the course of his extraordinary career.

Social Media and Civic Culture in Canada: Roundtable

What: A roundtable discussion with activists and academics on social media and civic engagement in Canada. Researchers and activists will give five-minute lightning talks on their work to kick off an evening of discussion. Topics include the political economy of intersectional hashtag activism, twitter debates on medical assisted suicide in Canada, Indigenous activism as de-colonizing civic culture and the Mohkinstsis Healing Camp.

Vote in the 2019 Provincial General Election

What: Make your voice heard by voting in the 2019 Provincial General Election. All eligible voters must vote at their designated voting station on Voting Day. You can find the locations of voting places by using the Government of Alberta’s interactive voting station map on their website.

You need to bring ID that proves your identity and home address. Your Alberta driver’s license, Alberta Identification card, or government-issued/school documents will work as well. Picture ID is not a requirement. If it is not stated on your ID, you’ll also need to bring something to establish your current address, which can be anything from a bank statement to a utility bill. Find a list of acceptable IDs here.

Science in the Cinema presents: The Big Sick

What: Join the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health for a free screening of ‘The Big Sick’, the next movie in their Science in the Cinema series. ‘The Big Sick’ is a cross-cultural romantic comedy based on the real-life story of Kumail Nanjiani, whose then ex-girlfriend was placed in a medically induced coma while doctors tried to diagnose her illness. After the movie, McCaig Institute researcher Dr. Marvin Fritzler, MD, PhD, will discuss the difficulties of diagnosing autoimmune and rheumatic illnesses.

Lea Salonga – The Human Heart Tour

What: Lea Salonga is a singer and actress who is best known for her Tony Award winning role in Miss Saigon. She was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway and returned to the beloved show as Fantine in the 2006 revival. Many fans of all ages recognize Lea as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine from Disney’s Aladdin and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II. For her portrayal of the beloved princesses, the Walt Disney Company bestowed her with the honor of “Disney Legend” in 2011.
