VulCON is back but will Conan O'Brien make an appearance?

VulCON is back once again this year.

It's also the 30th anniversary since Vulcan's been holding Star Trek conventions.

Everything kicks off this Friday July 28 at the Vulcan Tourism and Trek station.

And the big question a lot of us have is 'Will Conan O'Brien make a special guest appearance?'

He was invited after a guest on his podcast told him all about Vulcan and how they celebrate all things Star Trek.

According to GM at the Vulcan Tourism and Trek station, he says it's a no-go.

"Yeah, we never heard from Conan, but you know we're still hoping. We'll try again next year; you never know what could happen, I guess. Maybe he'll make a surprise visit, who knows, hard to say." 

However, celebrity Star Trek actors Bruce Horak, from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Emily Coutts, from Star Trek: Discovery will be at Vulcon this year.

what makes this year's event extra special is it's the 30th anniversary of the celebration of Star Trek and its unique name of Vulcan and how it relates to the Star Trek character Spock, who's from the fictional planet of Vulcan.

The two Star Trek actors making appearances are both Canadians with Bruce Horak hailing from our own backyard in Calgary.

Gauthier says he's looking forward to hearing Horak's story.

"Bruce is actually from Calgary originally.  He's a blind actor, he's one of the first blind actors in Hollywood so he went to school I believe and studied at Mount Royal College. You know, he'll be able to talk about all the challenges of what he's faced getting into acting."

Friday, July 28:

• 1-5 PM Registration inside the Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station

• 6-8 PM Celebrity Meet & Greet on the Trek Station Back Patio

(After 11:15, registration moves to CRC for the rest of the day)

• The rest of the day will be at the Cultural Recreational Centre (CRC)

• 11:30-5 PM Q&As Photo-ops & Autographs & Silent Auction CRC
