An Upcoming Performing Arts Centre in High River

On Apr. 5 at the Highwood Golf & Country Club, the High River Performing Arts Foundation revealed the Venue to the public through a presentation, which talked about the building being built soon in downtown High River, as well as the plans for what the Venue will offer.

The Performing Arts Centre will be a 12,000 square-foot place where people can go into and work on their talents as well as attend and hold events at.

There is supposed to be a black box theatre, box office, spaces for workshops, a backstage area, an upper studio, a rooftop patio, and a private condo suite.

Two students from Mount Royal University named Bret Growle and Sarah Ferguson attended the event which they helped promote.

“It’s really amazing to see,” said Ferguson.

“We feel fantastic,” said Growle.

Jim Goodwin, the President of the Venue said, “It feels exciting.  The board has been enthusiastic.”

The current fundraising goal is at 3 million dollars and that will cover just the building cost, but once they pass the goal it will go into furniture and other items.

Michael Koehler, the Director of Building and Deign said, “It’s fantastic, It’s good to see the energy.”

Koehler went on to say that this event is about raising awareness, but there are plans in place for more events in the future.

Koehler said he would throw a party when the building it just started to be built.

The High River Performing Arts Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit organization founded by Michael and Lori Koehler. Established as a foundation in April 2018, the board has worked to plan and construct The Venue, a space for locals from High River and surrounding areas to work creatively in a unique space. Currently there are eight board members and 49 active foundation members
