Country music superstars, Olympic champions and The Great One himself.

All of them came together to help encourage Albertans to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

On Saturday morning, the provincial government released a video online that featured some of the most prominent people to call this province home, both past and present. They all had one message.

The video features a who’s-who of famous Albertans.

From the sports world, there’s Calgary Flames great Jarome Iginla, current Edmonton Oilers Mike Green and Leon Draisaitl, as well as current Flames captain Mark Giordano. Olympic wrestling champion Erica Wiebe shows up, too.

The music world is well-represented, too, as country music stars Paul Brandt and Brett Kissel both make an appearance.

Unsurprisingly, Alberta’s political leaders are prominently featured in the video. Premier Jason Kenney, Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi each take their turns encouraging Albertans to stop the spread of COVID-19. Reform party founder Preston Manning and former interim leader of the federal Conservative party Rona Ambrose make cameos as well.

Kyle Melting Tallow, the Blood Tribe chief of police, and the Enoch First Nation’s chief, William Morin, are also featured.

“I want to thank all the prominent Albertans who lent their voice to this crucial message,” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health. “In the face of this global pandemic, Alberta’s leaders are coming together to raise awareness about how Albertans can help prevent the spread.”

The video isn’t just an opportunity for Alberta to show off its most famous faces. It also features practical advice on what everyone in the province can do to, well … stop the spread.

That includes washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes and self-isolating.
