In September 2020, a virtual pilot project took place in Calgary in collaboration with CMI, the TD Music Connected Series, Calgary Parks and the National Music Centre. It included a series of pre-recorded, 30-minute performances from local artists in six parks in Calgary. This year marks the first time that artists and fans will be gathering in person to experience Play The Parks in Calgary.

Two upcoming fall concerts are on Sept. 3 (2 p.m.) at the Farmers and Makers Market at cSpace Park (1721 29th Ave. S.W.) with TAYLR and Colin Carbonera, and on Sept. 17 (5 p.m.) with veteran hip-hop act Dragon Fli Empire and alternative R&B singer-songwriter Uyemi at the Good Neighbour Historic Firehall Park (off 1st Street S.E. between 5th and 6th avenues.)

Life is coming full circle for Terry Clark.

A former youth student at the Conservatory at Mount Royal University, he has returned to the city to take the reins of the centre.

As his grandfather did, Clark studied at the Conservatory as a youth before going on to earn a Bachelor of Music at the University of Calgary. He obtained his PhD. at the Royal College of Music in London, England, where he has been researching and teaching. He also was very involved in performance development and psychology, which he aims to continue with MRU.

“The Conservatory has always had a very illustrious place in my mind and I am overjoyed to be returning as director,” he says. “The Conservatory is home to some of Calgary’s most talented musicians and I am looking forward to further developing their skills, while also bringing in some of my knowledge around performance psychology.”

Evan Cortens, the interim dean of continuing education at MRU, says Clark brings a special skillset to the university and has a strong vision for the Conservatory.

“Terry will stand on the shoulders of the great work that has been done before him and make it even better. He brings a renewed vision to The Conservatory and will set the stage for the future. I think he brings unique expertise not only through his educational background but through his experiences.”
