Hackers steal card data from University of Calgary online book store

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The University of Calgary confirms it was affected by a large cybercrime operation.

Last week, an internet security blog detailed an online credit card skimming attack hitting almost 200 universities in Canada and the U.S.A., taking personal information from purchases made in online stores.

In a statement provided to 660 NEWS, a spokesperson confirms the University of Calgary Bookstore was targeted, but officials do not know the full details yet.

As a result, the store is not accepting purchases online until they solve the issue.

The company that manages these web stores also promises to fix the problem and introduce stricter security measures.

“Yes, we can confirm that the UCalgary online Bookstore was affected by this incident. At this time, we do not know the full details of the incident. However, as a security precaution, the UCalgary Bookstore website has been modified to browse only during the course of our investigation. We are working to restore this service.” – Shane Royal, Director, Ancillary Services UCalgary
