Cst. Robyn Mirva is fairly new to the Rimbey RCMP detachment, but, weirdly enough, this posting, her very first one, has brought her to the town she was born in and the place where her father, Dennis also served as a constable.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said, after she was told where her first posting would be.
Mirva received her degree in criminal justice from Mount Royal University in Calgary and then spent some time working for Alberta Sheriffs’ prisoner transport and as court security.
Before becoming an officer she spent 26 weeks at the RCMP Training Academy Depot in Regina, Saskatchewan.
She is enjoying her job.
“Policing is more challenging and you deal more with people than in my previous job,” she said. “I like the challenge.”
The Mirva family left Rimbey when Robyn was only four-years old, but she has spent some time in the area and also stopped at the Rimbey detachment with her father on her way to Regina.
“My dad really liked Rimbey and that posting,” she said. “My parents are very happy for me.”
Working in Rimbey seems quite natural, she added.
“It’s good to be back in my home province and Rimbey feels like home, still. I am very happy to be here.”
Mirva’s younger sister, Lauren is a police officer in Nelson, B.C.
