Each week in the lead up to Crossfield's Town council byelection Oct. 19, the Rocky View Weekly will ask the candidates a question that could impact voters. Each candidate has been given a maximum of 250 words to respond.

This week, we asked: Why should residents of Crossfield elect you to Town Council?

Jo Lambert

Crossfield residents should elect me to Council because I have the knowledge and experience needed to do the job well. I am accountable, thoughtful, hard-working and caring. I offer honesty and a unique perspective of common sense.

Crossfield is an awesome community and I am ready to be one of five decision-makers who develop the future for our community, ensuring the town's financial stability while listening to the visions offered by its residents and businesses.

I know everyone is dealing with a great number of challenges, especially during this unique and somewhat fearful time, but I’m confident voters will take the information they have been offered during the campaign and make the best decision to make the Town of Crossfield a safe, prosperous and enjoyable home and workplace.

Kim Harris

I love Crossfield. I love how welcoming our residents are and I love the potential the town has to become even more amazing.

My education and experience set me apart from the other candidates. I have more than 20 years of experience working for different municipalities as a recreation director, programmer and community developer. In these roles, I've done event planning, project management, policy development, strategic planning and reporting to Council and other boards. I attended Mount Royal University's physical education program, completed placemaking courses from the University of British Columbia and taken leadership courses from the University of Calgary and Harvard University.

My platform priorities are transparency, accountability, public engagement, connecting with all levels of government, supporting and attracting business, balanced fiscal accountability, community safety and a commitment to building a walkable, livable Crossfield.

I am authentic, and during this byelection I have proven I am accountable and transparent by being the only candidate to provide information through a Facebook page and a website. I have openly answered questions through social media. I will do my best to ensure decisions are made based on facts and for the best public benefit of our town.

Crossfield is my hometown and I care about how it is developed and what happens here. I want Crossfield to be a place our kids come back to live and where there are opportunities for everyone to work, play and make Crossfield their home. I hope you place your trust in me and cast your ballot for Kim Harris.

Editor's Note: Justin Gustafson did not respond to this week's question before press time.
