Survivor Love Letter

This is the fourth year that MRU and SAMRU will be engaging in the #SurvivorLoveLetter campaign. We are reaching out to the MRU community to write messages and create art that celebrates survivorship and shows survivors that they are believed, supported and loved.

“Survivor Love Letters is a movement for survivors of sexual assault and their allies to publicly celebrate their lives. It was started by filmmaker and activist, Tani Ikeda in 2012 on the anniversary of her rape where she penned a letter to her younger self that ended with the words: “this is my survivor love letter” (survivorloveletter.com).

Love letters can be done in any medium (such as a message, drawing, painting, photography, music, or spoken word). They can be submitted individually or by a group, such as a club, team, faculty or department.

We will post the submissions for Sexual Violence Awareness Month throughout May on MRU and SAMRU social media accounts. Submissions can be made by individuals or groups.

If you have been adversely affected by dating, domestic or sexual violence, you are not alone. Go to mru.ca/ddsv for more information.

Survivor Love Letter Button Making Workshop

This year, the Survivor Love Letter Campaign will be offered in the form of buttons! Pin-back buttons are frequently used to communicate about the issues that we care about. Come make wearable art that promotes messages or imagery of care and support to survivors of sexual violence in this button-making workshop.

This workshop will be facilitated by students Logan Brisson and Kendra Varga with professional support available.
