Wow. Snow, huh? Yes, it might be a snow day for a lot of you, and yes it is a bit daunting to think about having to get out and manoeuvre your way through it all, but wouldn’t you rather be out and experiencing some culture than sitting on your couch? Doing laundry? I’ll tell you what’s better than doing laundry…
Thursday: Head to The Gateway for Romes (if you want to), or take in Ghost River Theatre’s OCD at West Village Theatre. Theatre Calgary’s Twelfth Night is also a great option – puppets!
Friday: Comedy, anyone? Chris D’Elia will be performing at the Grey Eagle, or if you’re feeling more EDM then head to the Palace for Paul Oakenfold. BUT! The Fifth Reel is presenting Awful Cinema: Batman & Robin at the Globe! So bad it’s good? So good it’s bad? You make the call.
Saturday: Have you taken in the new show at Glenbow yet? Frida Kahlo: Her Photos is a good way to spend some time indoors this weekend. If you’re feeling crafty and nerdy all at the same time, Beakerhead presents their Valentine’s Heartfelt Workshop — make an anatomical heart out of felt, then eat some great food at Avec Bistro this afternoon. Win win win win. In the evening you can check out Charlie Parker with strings featuring PJ Perry with Orchestra at the Bella Concert Hall.
Sunday: Johnny Summers brings you the Art of Romance/Art of Soul with the Calgary Jazz Orchestra at River Park Church. Get into the Valentine’s mood!
Monday: If you work downtown, head over to the ATB Art Vault Gallery on 8th Ave. to see Intertwined — a group show by ACAD Fibre Students. Monday night is Happenings 11 – Architecture of Sculpture at Arts Commons. So much happening downtown!
Tuesday: Enter Shikari with Milk Teeth at Commonwealth. The snow will have cleared, there will be parking! (Maybe.)
Wednesday: Valentine’s Day. You do you on this most famous of Hallmark holidays.
