Students considering a career in health care can sign up for a new one-year Pre-Health Sciences Certificate at Red Deer College that starts this fall.

Unique across Alberta, the programs are designed to give students insight into the roles and responsibilities of a variety of health care fields and they will learn about anatomy, physiology, personal health and wellness while developing critical thinking and communication skills necessary for their future careers.

With a course load of 22 credits, students have the flexibility to add courses if they need to upgrade or to take electives that would benefit their future educational goals.

Graduates of the program will be eligible to apply to five different programs in RDC’s School of Health Sciences, providing they meet all of the additional admission requirements. Those programs are Kinesiology & Sport Studies Diploma, Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate, Occupational & Physical Therapist Assistant Diploma, Pharmacy Technician Diploma and Practical Nurse Diploma.

RDC will designate 10 per cent of the seats in the five programs for certificate graduates.

Applications for the Pre-Health Sciences Certificate are now open for the fall term. For more information, visit RDC’s website.
