Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS)
AARCS is a grassroots animal welfare organization based in Alberta. Our goal is to help homeless animals in our community and enact societal change, so that we may all witness a Compassionate World for All Animals.
Alzheimer Calgary [Healthcare & Human Services]
Alzheimer Calgary is a local non-profit organization. Our mission is to lead with our influence and expertise to help people impacted by dementia to live well and build the community capacity to support them.
Education: We deliver a range of education sessions and training for families, care partners, healthcare professionals, and community members.
Care: Club 36 is our Adult Day Program, which provides meaningful social and recreational activities for people living with dementia, and respite for their caregivers.
Support: Our team provides support to families during their journey of impact, providing advice and connecting them with essential resources.
Bethany Care Society [Healthcare & Human Services]
Established in 1945, Bethany Care Society is one of Western Canada's largest not-for-profit providers of care, services and affordable housing for over 2,000 seniors and adults with disabilities in Calgary and southern Alberta. Bethany provides a full spectrum of housing and care options, from independent living, supportive living, long term care, affordable housing and community services. We are dedicated to building caring relationships with the residents and clients we serve and meaningful partnerships that support and celebrate aging within the communities we operate - fulfilling our vision of Creating Caring Communities. We work closely with Alberta Health Services ("AHS") to offer the only complex dementia care program in the Calgary Zone. Bethany has established itself as a leader in dementia care, with specialized programming, highly qualified and experienced leaders and caregivers, and strong partnerships with clinical researchers and specialists working in this field.
Between Friends [Sports and Recreation]
Between Friends provides Social & Recreational Programming and Inclusion Services that give people with disabilities of all ages the opportunity to experience fun and enriching activities in the community. Participants feel included, happy, and safe in an environment where they can build genuine friendships and be themselves without fear of judgment or bullying.
CAHS [Healthcare & Human Services]
Alpha House Society is a non-profit, charitable agency providing safe and caring environments for individuals whose lives are affected by alcohol and other substance dependencies. Our work is a direct intersection of homelessness, addiction, and mental health. All of our clients' lives have been impacted by alcohol and other drug dependencies. We accept volunteer and practicum placements. We also screen for group volunteer and event support. An individual can volunteer in our food security program as a Kitchen Helper or as a mentor in our Detox or Shelter, in Admin support, or in special events. Groups are also welcome to sponsor sandwich-making, needle pack-making, clothing drives, and other event activities. Your volunteering is an important part of Alpha House's ability to provide services, supplies, and support for vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness in Calgary.
Calgary Catholic Immigration Society
The Volunteer Resources program at CCIS is designed with two purposes. First, is to assist immigrants and refugees with their integration into living in Calgary through volunteering. Volunteering with CCIS will assist newcomers and refugees with learning new skills and building "Canadian Work Experience". Secondly, the Volunteer Resource program also encourages CCIS staff to utilize the skills and availability of CCIS volunteers for both internal and external CCIS activities and volunteer roles. Since its incorporation, CCIS has supported a culture of volunteerism.
Calgary Drop-In Centre [Healthcare & Human Services]
We welcome adults at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Working collaboratively, we provide access to a spectrum of care that supports each person's transition to the most independent living possible-including emergency shelter, programs and services, and affordable and supported housing.
Calgary Health Foundation [Healthcare & Human Services]
Calgary Health Foundation is a philanthropic organization established in 1996 to unite donors, hospitals, health care providers and community partners with the ambitious aim of revolutionizing health outcomes.
Calgary Seniors' Resource Society [Healthcare & Human Services]
We are non-profit organization that uses social work and volunteerism to support seniors living independently in their own homes.
Distress Centre [Healthcare & Human Services]
Distress Centre Calgary (DCC) provides 24 hour crisis support, professional counselling, youth peer support and navigation and referrals through 211 and our programs at SORCe - all at no cost. For over 50 years, Distress Centre has served Calgary and Southern Alberta, ensuring everyone has a place to turn in times of crisis.
Diversecities Community Service Association
Diversecities (formerly the Calgary Chinese Community Service Association) is a non-profit organization that has been serving Calgarians since 1978, with a mandate to provide social integration support to racialized communities, immigrants, and newcomers. We seek to create an inclusive and supportive society where all people have equitable access to Canadian society. Diversecities is a renewed expression of our long term vision: a welcoming home for immigrants, where Calgarians of different ethnic origins are meaningfully engaged in the community.
Highbanks Society [Healthcare & Human Services]
PROVIDING A SAFE, AFFORDABLE HOME AND NURTURING COMMUNITY for pregnant and parenting mothers ages 16-24 who are pursuing their education.
Unsupported young mothers and their children are especially vulnerable to the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
By providing housing and integrated life support, Highbanks assists in interrupting this cycle and helps young mothers to reach their full potential.
Hull Services [Healthcare & Human Services]
Hull Services has long had a reputation for providing leading edge child, youth, and family mental health services. We work with children, youth and families who have experienced significant types of challenges. Hull offers them an opportunity to seek well-being and happiness, with a focus on mental health. Hull's vision is for resilient young people and families to thrive within communities that support their mental health and well-being.
Junior Achievement (JA) started with a vision to help teach young people about business and free enterprise. That was back in 1919, before JA became a global leader in educating youth about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.
JFSC- Jewish Family Services Calgary [Healthcare & Human Services]
JFSC is a non-denomination organization that enriches lives and strengthens communities by providing social services to individuals and families based on the values of compassion, social justice and improving the world.
Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta [Healthcare & Human Services]
Kids Cancer Care programs are uniquely designed to meet the needs of the whole family at each stage of the cancer journey, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. The foundation helps Alberta children and families by providing funding and programs in these key areas: Camp and Outreach; Research and Hospital; and Education Support and Scholarship programs.
Today, Kids Cancer Care is one of the largest childhood cancer research funders in the country. The foundation now offers more than 20 year-round and summer camp and outreach programs, along with education support program and services to Alberta families. Kids Cancer Care is one of only a handful of charities in North America dedicated to supporting the entire continuum of childhood cancer, fighting the disease on all fronts, with laughter at camp, the best treatments at the hospital and innovative science in the lab and brighter futures through education support and post-secondary scholarships.
Kids@ Churchill Park [Healthcare & Human Services]
Churchill Park was founded in 1970 as a non-profit, charitable organization. The first centre opened in response to the needs of students attending Bow Valley College. The program offered supported childcare services for families with special needs and services for deaf and hard-of-hearing families. Today, Churchill Park remains responsive to the needs of the community. We are a fully licensed organization which proudly serves over 600 children and families in Calgary. We care for children from young infants to school age. Our programs include community-, corporate- and school-based child care centres plus several dozen family day homes. Churchill Park is governed by a skilled and committed volunteer Board of Directors and currently employs approximately 140 dedicated and passionate child care providers.
Kids Up Front Foundation (Calgary)
Kids Up Front Calgary provides experiences to deserving children and youth in the Calgary area. We believe all kids should have access to enriching experiences like arts, culture, and sporting events. Attendance at events like these helps to foster feelings of inclusion and belonging in the children we help. Kids Up Front reaches children in need through our innovative program by distributing tickets, classes, and passes to more than 150 partner agencies in the Calgary area.
Lead Foundation [Healthcare & Human Services]
Lead Foundation supports children in homes and in their ECE sites. The children in our program are primarily between the ages of 2.5-6 and have a range of needs and exceptionalities.
Prospect Human Services [Healthcare & Human Services]
Prospect helps people get jobs. We're a not-for-profit and registered charity, so while the bottom line can't be ignored, it's not our priority. You are.
We welcome anyone who is looking for a better life through employment. We work with candidates who have degrees; we also work with people who are experiencing homelessness or experiencing a mental health condition or challenge. We can help upgrade your skills; we can also work with an employer to help them understand a disability. Above all, we're creative and resourceful.
Recognizing that not everyone learns in the same way, our methods include art and the great Alberta outdoors as tools. We help young and old, people changing industries, recent immigrants, veterans, people with disabilities, and everyday Albertans who feel that the job search process has become daunting.
Sagesse [Healthcare & Human Services]
Sagesse empowers individuals and communities to disrupt structures of domestic abuse by supporting people to develop skills and lead safe, healthy lives.
We work to support individuals impacted by abuse, while challenging norms and advocating for large-scale societal change that will eradicate abuse in Alberta.
Domestic abuse can make you feel isolated. Being able to connect with others who speak your language and can empathize with where you are provides a sense of community and understanding. When individuals who have been affected by domestic abuse engage in evidence-based, peer programming then individual and systemic change will occur that promotes respectful, healthy, and peaceful relationships.
Shelter Movers Calgary [Healthcare & Human Services]
Shelter Movers Calgary is a volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence.
Special Olympics Calgary [Sports and Recreation]
We are part of an international movement, with links around the world and throughout Canada. Calgary is the largest affiliate in Alberta! We provide 33 different programs and 21 sports year round to over 1600 participants with an intellectual disability ages 2 and up.
The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth [Healthcare & Human Services]
The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) is an immigrant and refugee serving agency that works in schools and in community spaces to support kids grade 1-12 with social emotional learning, leadership and life skills, and academic tutoring. Last year CBFY served 13,000 youth and their families helping them to understand the school system, find the resources and supports that they need to flourish in Canada, and provided a safe place for them to belong. CBFY relies on the dedication of our benevolent volunteers, mentors and donors who support and nurture immigrant youth and families as they integrate into Canadian culture.
The Calgary Humane Society [Government, Education and the Public Sector]
Since our beginning in 1922, Calgary Humane Society has been more than a shelter. We are proud to be Calgary's first and most robust animal welfare organization.
We are a hub for all animals in need-any animal, under any circumstances. Beyond adoptions, we support animal welfare in Calgary through education, outreach, emergency vet services for surrendered animals, behaviour training for those in need, and our unique ability to enforce the Animal Protection Act.
The Inside [Sports and Recreation]

We believe skateboarding carries great potential as an unconventional tool for meaningful social change. As an organization built by skateboarders, for skateboarders, we're committed to creating safe environments of trust, joy, and community. Through consistent weekly programming, annual events, camps, and significant global and local partnerships, we serve and mentor the youth and young adults of the action sports community. The Mustard Seed [Healthcare & Human Services]
The Mustard Seed is a Christian non-profit organization that has been caring for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty since 1984. Operating in five cities across Alberta and British Columbia, The Mustard Seed is a supportive haven where people can have their physical, mental, and spiritual needs met and grow toward greater health and independence.Today, the organization operates in multiple cities, including Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, and Medicine Hat in Alberta, and Kamloops in British Columbia. All locations offer an expansive range of programs and services to serve our most vulnerable community members.
YMCA Calgary [Sports and Recreation]
Since our inception in 1902, YMCA Calgary has evolved into a vibrant charity offering health and wellness programs, leadership and community outreach programs, child care, and day and overnight camps.
YMCA Calgary offers six health and wellness facilities, six child development centres with licensed child care, two outdoor camp sites and dozens of community program sites across the city. We deliver programs, services and opportunities to help Calgarians connect, build life-long skills, and keep active and healthy.
13008037 Canada Association (Youth en Route) [Sports and Recreation]
Calgary-based Charity Youth en Route inspires and supports active transportation to school and beyond. Focussed on Junior High and High Schools, our work breaks down the barriers youth face when considering active modes of travel. Barriers are determined by engagement with schools and students. At some schools, it's the lack of secure bike storage or a lock. At others, students lack basic cycling skills and knowledge. Our programs meet the needs of students and integrates active transportation, including cycling education, into core and optional classes.
This annual event connects nonprofit organizations to MRU students who are seeking volunteer opportunities.
