Sugar Bowl Lawn Bowling Fundraiser: Amber Webb-Bowerman Memorial

Amber Webb-Bowerman was a vibrant and talented young Calgary journalist whose tragic death in May 2008 at age 30 affected the whole community, in what became known as the Dalhousie murders.

However, many people have been helping to create something positive from this extreme loss with a memorial foundation and the Sugar Bowl Lawn Bowling fundraiser at the Rotary Park Lawn Bowling Club at 705-1 Street, N.E. on Saturday.

Board member Billie Rae Busby tells 660 NEWS, all proceeds will go toward various youth journalism and writing initiatives.

“The money goes to a variety of areas; we’ve already got a scholarship in Amber’s name at SAIT Polytechnic and Mount Royal University and we’ve recently been supporting residency for youth, a creative writing residency called Wordsworth through the Alberta Writers’ Guild,” she says.

Busby adds so far, the annual event has managed to raise nearly $100,000 for the cause.
